  • Ev vs. Equity

In Matt Afleck's chapter 13 of the 30 day cash game challenge, the scenario is from the OOP SB who 3 bets the B open. The overall equity of the aggressor's entire range vs. IP is 57% and the Ev is 58%. My question is, shouldn't the OOP player be expecting an Ev lower than the equity due simply to being out of position or is this mitigated by being the aggressor?

    Good question.

Whilst it is always harder to realise equity out of position, the SB's 3 betting range is going to contain a lot of premium hands which over-realise their equity which probably makes up for the positional disadvantage. Being tue aggressor certainly helps too as we can often take down the pot on the flop.
